With the introduction of new disruptive technologies technology is playing a massive role in the way we deliver eyecare more than ever before.

There are a lot of disruptive technologies in the marketplace right now that is changing the way we deliver eyecare.

These technologies are sometimes faced by fear; however, these same technologies can sometimes be extremely beneficial.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Aaron Lech, OD owner at ClearVue Eye Care, during Vision Expo East, and asked him to share some thoughts on how technology is changing the way we deliver eyecare.

Data is going to play a major role in the eyecare space and there are some positives of disruptive technology.

With outside technologies that are driving online “eye exams,” what we gain from this is awareness. This gives us an opportunity to highlight ourselves with distinction and how we are different in regards to quality of care.

Learn some important lessons before adopting technology into your practice.

As you consider the technology in your own practice, you always need to consider a few elements:
  1. Cost of training staff to use the instrument
  2. Cost of the instrument itself
  3. How long does it take to use, and how does that impact exam time?

All of these factored together can incur significant expenses to practices.

So before you adopt any technology in your practice, you need to make sure that:
  1. The technology is able to justify itself in terms of expense
  2. Ability to integrate with what is already in your practice
Any technology you add to your practice should enhance what we can do diagnostically and what additional benefit it can provide our patients and our business.
