If you are interested in modern Private Practice Optometry, we are looking for YOU!
Malara Eyecare and Eyewear Gallery, located in the Syracuse, NY area towns of Liverpool and Fayetteville, is seeking an optometrist to fulfill its mission of providing "Professional Eyecare with a Personal Touch." We are willing to hire a doctor for full-time or part-time employment.
The owner of the practice, Dr. Richard Malara, and his associate, Dr. Matthew Durkin, are both optometrists who believe their patients deserve to be treated with kindness, respect, and compassion.
We use modern diagnostic medical technologies such as SD-OCT by Optovue and Topcon, Corneal topography and Wavefront analysis, electronic vision charts, Optomap Daytona imaging, Humphrey comprehensive VF, as well as Matrix and FDT machines. We use Icare tomometry as well as Goldmann applanation. We use Ipads and desktop computers in our exam rooms.
At Malara Eyecare, we practice comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages. We fit standard and specialty contact lenses including soft and RGP multifocals, keratoconic lenses, Corneal Refractive Therapy lenses, as well as an occasional scleral lens.
The practice provides medical care for conditions such as abrasions, foreign bodies, inflammations and infections, and treatment and medical management of chronic conditions like glaucoma and dry eye. We participate in a small amount of co-management of cataract and LASIK patients.
We do not currently provide low vision or vision therapy/orthoptics services, but we are open to the idea of expanding into these areas for a doctor who is motivated to provide these services.
Optometric technicians perform all screening and special testing, including Auto Refraction/Keratometry/Topography, Visual Fields, OCT, Optomap photos, corneal pachymetry, screening tonometry with Icare tonometer, etc. Several of the technicians are also trained as scribes to help the doctors enter information into the Eyefinity EHR system.
Currently, we are seeking an optometrist who is licensed in New York State to work as a full time or part time employee, as desired by the applicant.
The practice offers benefits to full-time doctors, such as paid vacation, medical and dental insurance, health savings account contributions, eyewear benefits, quarterly bonuses, and a 401k retirement plan with contribution matching. Malpractice insurance and AOA/NYSOA membership dues are also included. Paid continuing education credits are available. Assistance in applying for credentialing in local insurance plans and Medicare is also provided.
Syracuse is home to several excellent universities, and has an excellent airport, train station, and is located close to several lakes and rivers. There are art and science museums, small villages, and a major mall. Excellent health care is available, with a modern teaching hospital, as well as two other excellent hospitals. There are opportunities to live in urban areas, suburbs, or farm country, all within a 20 mile radius. Syracuse enjoys four seasons, ranging from snowmobile and ski weather to tanning on the back porch! Fall is especially beautiful in Upstate NY. Traffic jams are almost nonexistent. The cost of living is low, but the quality of life is high.
