About Our Practice

 Atlee Gleaton Eye Care is located in Augusta, ME and provides eye care to the beautiful central region of the state. Our practice is currently comprised of two full time ophthalmologists and two full time optometrists that provide a wide range of services to these communities. The practice is fully staffed with well trained technicians, a wonderful front desk staff and an extensive optical shop with highly trained opticians. Our office has top of the line ancillary testing with OCT, visual field, fundus photography, corneal topography and fluorescein angiography. We have a wide range of soft, hard and specialty contact lens fitting sets to meet all patient needs. Our optometrists and ophthalmologists work together to provide the best care possible for our patients, often co-managing complex cases and surgical care. Our office houses 13 lanes and a small surgery suite (non ambulatory) with state-of-the-art equipment including: 

  • Optos Camera with FA Capability
  • Octopus Visual Fields
  • Auto Refractor
  • Cirrus 5000 OCT
  • Topography
  • Eye Express machine for Dry Eye
  • Plus we have integrated EHR

Our technicians complete patient workups and pretesting before our patients meet with their MD or OD. We are a very collaborative team who truly connect with one another and enjoy what we do every day. 

Maine (also known as “Vacationland”) offers excellent school systems, outstanding golf courses, excellent state parks, abundant hiking, short drive away from ski resorts, lakes and rivers, and the beautiful Maine Coast. Augusta is the state capital and is located just an hour north of Portland, Maine’s largest city and three hours from Boston. Optometrist Job Duties & Responsibilities

We are searching for a talented optometrist to join our tenured and growing team! You'll use your clinical and interpersonal skills to provide high-quality vision care to our patients. Our ideal candidate is someone who understands the importance of relationships within our community, is comfortable seeing a broad scope of conditions and issues, and who wants to connect with their team. Our culture encourages connecting with our patients and creating long term bonds where our patients come back on a yearly bases for all of their eye care needs. The position would be for a doctor who likes to work independently; however also benefits from a practice with established resources and help from mentoring ODs and MDs. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient care, as well as fostering a unique environment where you can grow as a doctor. 

This is a full-time opportunity for an experienced or new grad OD to join our exceptional team. No weekend shifts required! Your schedule will be flexible and open for you to decide what hours you would like to work!

 Generally you will see a combination of the follow types of exams:

- Routine care/yearly eye exams

- Contact lens fittings

- Medical management of glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, eyelid pathology, dry eye and other ocular diseases

- Emergent referral visits (during work hours)

- Post-operative care

We are willing to expand other services based on doctors interest:

- Low Vision

- Pediatric care

Optometrist Job Requirements & Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree
  • Valid Maine state license to practice optometry
  • Glaucoma and Diabetes experience or interest are huge pluses!
  • Experience with Nextech EHR is a plus
